To Dishoom and Back

A few years ago i went to the Covent Garden branch of Dishoom... and loved it! I've been there again - many times in fact - and the menu as well as ambiance is as faultless as ever. Whether you want a quick bite for lunch, or a proper meal in the evening, this pace has it all.

As i'm sure you already know, Dishoom also prides itself on offering a full Halal menu. All the chicken and lamb dishes are suitable, and the selection is always being updated. There is also a fantastic Vegetarian menu, although you would expect nothing less from an "authentic" Indian dining experience. This is more Mumbai Street Food, rather than red-stained chicken tikka fingers from a dodgy curry house.

Here is what real Chicken Tikka is supposed to look like...

I've been raving about Dishoom for so long now, that most of my friends have already been. The main problem has been with how busy the place seems to be these days. You would be best advised to book in advance, especially in the evening when queues form early.

Or, there is now another option.

Dishoom Shoreditch has arrived! It's the same food (with a few twists), only now in the uber-trendy East-End. Don't worry, the "Hoxton" element has been kept out of the furnishings and design. This branch feature a unique Verandah, which makes it the perfect place to spend a lazy summer day. I've only had the chance to visit in the cold months - although it does come with a roof and is also well heated - yet i can't wait to visit it again when the weather picks up.

Another reason to venture east is the additions to the menu. Again, all the chicken and lamb dishes are suitable, and one stands out in particular.

If you do find yourself in East London, make sure you have the irresistible Lamb Raan Bun. Delicious pulled lamb served with a side of Indian fries and salad. You can basically have it how you please, and it is easily enough to fill you up. If it counts as a "burger", then it is the best in London!

What we really need now is a branch in every part of London!
